Haltech ECUs are some of the best standalone units on the market. Thousands of builds running on Elite series, Platinum series, Sprint, and everything in between. The NSP software is solid, the hardware is reliable, and tuners love them.
But there's one scenario that makes Haltech owners lose sleep: a locked map file with no way to access it.
How Haltech Map Locking Works
When a tuner finishes calibrating a Haltech ECU, they can lock the map file before handing the car back. This is done through Haltech's NSP (Nexus Software Platform) or the older ESP software. The locked .hs2 file still loads and runs on the ECU, but you can't view or edit any of the tuning parameters — fuel maps, ignition tables, boost control, nothing.
The intent is to protect the tuner's work. Fair enough. But when the file is locked and the tuner is out of the picture, you're stuck. You can't fine-tune for a new exhaust setup. You can't adjust the idle after changing injectors. You can't do anything.
What We Do
We decrypt your locked Haltech map file and return the fully unlocked version. Every table, every parameter, every setting — completely accessible. You load the unlocked file into NSP and you have full control, same as if it was never locked in the first place.
Our process works with all Haltech platforms:
- Elite series — Elite 750, 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500
- Nexus R3, R5
- Sprint series — Sprint 500, Sprint RE
- Platinum series — Platinum Sport, Platinum Pro, Platinum Pro Plug-In
- All firmware versions from 1.3.0 to latest
If it's an .hs2 file from NSP or ESP, we can handle it.
How the Process Works
- Upload your locked .hs2 file — Go to our unlock page and upload your Haltech map file.
- We verify before you pay — Our system checks the file, detects the Haltech version, and confirms the unlock will work. You see confirmation before spending any money.
- Pay and download — After payment, you get the unlocked
.hs2file immediately. Download it, open it in NSP, and everything is accessible.
Start to finish, the whole process usually takes under 5 minutes.
After You Get the Unlocked File
Loading the unlocked file into your Haltech is straightforward:
- Open Haltech NSP (or ESP for older units)
- Connect to your ECU via USB or Ethernet
- Go to File → Open and select the unlocked
.hs2file we sent you - Click Send All to ECU (the button with the arrow pointing into the ECU icon)
- Wait for the transfer to complete — usually takes a few seconds
That's it. Your ECU now has the unlocked calibration. All parameters are editable, and you can save new versions of the file without any lock.
Common Situations We See
Bought a car with a locked Haltech: This is the most common one. Previous owner had it tuned, the map was locked, and now you need to make changes for your setup. New turbo, different fuel, swap to E85 — you need access to the tune.
Shop closed or tuner unreachable: The shop that tuned the car went under, or the tuner moved on to something else. No one answers the phone or emails. The password is gone.
Bought a base map online: Some tuners sell locked base maps as starting points. If you need to adjust beyond what the tuner expected, you're locked out.
Dispute with a tuner: Sometimes the relationship goes sideways. The tuner won't release the password, and you need access to your own ECU.
Whatever the reason, we don't judge. You own the ECU, you should be able to access the tune on it.
