The Haltech Nexus series — R3, R5, Rebel LS, S2, S3 — runs on the Nexus Software Platform (NSP), and it's a completely different setup from the older Haltech ECU Manager software. Different interface, different file format, different protection scheme. If you've got a locked .nexmap file from NSP, the old Haltech tricks don't apply here.
But we handle it. And it's fast.
The .nexmap Format
When you save a tune in NSP, the file comes out as a .nexmap. Unlike the older .ecm files from ECU Manager, the .nexmap format uses a modern encryption container. The tune data sits inside an encrypted archive, and NSP controls whether you can view and edit it based on the protection flags set by whoever saved the file.
A tuner can lock parts of the tune (just sensors, just fuel, just ignition) or lock the whole thing. Either way, you need the password to get past it.
Why Nexus Owners Get Stuck
The Nexus series is still relatively new, so a lot of the builds running these ECUs are recent. But "recent" doesn't mean the tuner is still around. Shops close. Tuners switch brands. Sometimes the tuner is still in business but the relationship went bad — they won't hand over the password, and Haltech's support team will tell you they can't help with third-party passwords.
We also see a lot of Nexus files from car flippers and importers. Someone buys a built car, the ECU has a Nexus R5 with a locked tune, and the seller "forgot" who tuned it. Now you've got a car running a tune you can't adjust, and the only alternative is a full retune from scratch.
What We Do
We remove the password protection from the .nexmap file entirely. You upload the locked file, we strip the lock, and you get back a clean .nexmap that opens in NSP with full access to every table and parameter.
The tune data stays identical — same fuel maps, same ignition timing, same boost targets, same everything. The only difference is the password protection is gone.
This also works for the Elite 2500 when it's running on NSP and saving as .nexmap. Some Elite 2500 units use the older ECU Manager software and save as .ecm — we handle those too, through a different process.
