FuelTech FT Map File Locked — How to Recover Your .ftmap Tune

August 13, 2026

FuelTech is everywhere in the drag racing and high-performance scene — especially in Brazil where half the serious builds seem to run an FT. The FTManager software is capable, the hardware is proven, and the support community is massive.

But here's the thing nobody talks about until it happens to them: a locked .ftmap file is a brick wall. And FuelTech themselves can't (or won't) help you get past it.

How FuelTech Tune Locking Works

In FTManager, a tuner can password-protect the calibration file when they save it. The locked .ftmap still loads onto the ECU and the engine still runs, but you can't view or modify any of the calibration data through FTManager. All the tables are hidden behind the password.

This is pretty standard across ECU brands — the tuner locks it to protect their work, prevent tampering, or just to make sure the customer comes back to them for changes. Nothing wrong with that in principle.

The problem starts when you need access and the tuner isn't available.

Common Situations

We see a lot of FuelTech files from Brazil and the US, and the stories are usually one of these:

  • Car was imported or bought used, came with an FT unit already tuned and locked. Original tuner is in another state or another country.
  • Tuner retired, moved shops, or just went quiet. Phone number doesn't work anymore.
  • You want to switch to a different tuner but the current one won't unlock the file — or wants an unreasonable fee to do it.
  • You're a tuner yourself and a customer brought you a car with someone else's locked map. You need to see what's in there before you start changing things.

Any of those sound familiar?

What We Do With Your .ftmap

We extract the password from the locked file. Not a brute force guess — we pull the actual password the tuner originally set. You get it back as text, enter it in FTManager, and everything opens up.

We also give you the option of receiving an unlocked copy of the file if you'd prefer that instead.

The process takes minutes, not days. Upload, we verify it can be processed, you see proof, then you pay and get your password or unlocked file.

Every FuelTech Model

We support the full FuelTech range — current and legacy:
